From 2012, to ensure its graduates continue to meet international benchmarks of excellence, UWA has changed the way it delivers undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The redesigned course structures will be instrumental in raising UWA’s international profile, positioning your University amongst the world’s finest educational institutions.

Background

In 2007 and 2008, the University reviewed its course structures to ensure that UWA continues to provide the best possible student learning experience within a coherent framework.

  • Consultations attracted valuable input from people within and beyond the University, including many students.
  • The review recommended a simple and flexible structure for undergraduate degrees.
  • It also recommended a reshaping of the relationship between undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

Many areas around campus, including the Guild, have been involved in the implementation of the new course structure. The involvement of the Guild President on the Implementation Committee and a number of working parties ensures that the concerns and questions of students continue to be considered as New Courses rolls out.

Contact your Faculty adviser or your Guild representative if you have any questions about how New Courses may affect you.

Value of a UWA degree

Results from Graduate Destinations Surveys (GDS) over many years have shown that studying at UWA enhances your career prospects and increases your chances of finding a better job.

The 2011 results reinforce the historical trend that starting salaries for UWA bachelor degree graduates are consistently higher than those for graduates of other Western Australian universities and most universities nationally.

The changes we are making to our courses are integral to our goal of becoming one of the world’s top 100 universities by the year 2013 – the benefit of which will be experienced by all members of the University community, past and present.

Undergraduate options

If you started your degree in, or prior to, 2011, you may have chosen to continue studying in your current course in 2012, or you may have chosen to transfer into one of the five new undergraduate courses.

If you are starting your undergraduate study in 2012 or beyond, you will be enrolled into one of UWA's five undergraduate degrees. Visit the UWA Handbook website for full details.

Postgraduate opportunities

UWA has introduced a number of new professional postgraduate courses. These exist in addition to the existing wide range of postgraduate degrees already available to you once you complete your undergraduate degree.
